Best Meditation Apps With Flexible 5-, 10- and 15-Minute Sessions

Compare Insight Timer, Simply Being, Calm, Headspace and Bliss Brain for adjustable meditation lengths, with duration options and practical limitations.

For meditation apps with flexible session lengths, consider Insight Timer for a customizable timer, Simply Being for guided versions in 5, 10 and 15 minutes, and Calm for adjustable standalone practices. Headspace offers different lengths across its Basics courses, while Bliss Brain・AI Meditation App generates personalized 5-, 10- or 15-minute sessions. For a schedule that changes every day, choose by whether you want spoken guidance, a familiar practice or simply a timer—not length alone.

What does “flexible session length” actually mean?

Three features can sound similar but work differently:

  • Adjustable guidance: choose a duration before starting a practice that offers multiple versions.
  • Duration filtering: find an existing recording that fits your available time. Filtering does not shorten that recording.
  • An unguided timer: set the time for your own practice, without a teacher talking you through it.

A five-minute option in an app does not mean every meditation has a five-minute version. The comparison below separates these approaches. It uses published product information, not hands-on testing or a universal ranking.

App

How the length changes

Access

Important limitation

Insight Timer

Set a timer duration and save presets.

Guided tracks have separate length filters.

Free custom timer and many guided practices; optional MemberPlus subscription.

The timer is not spoken guidance; filtering selects recordings rather than resizing them.

Meditation Oasis: Simply Being

Original Simply Being practice: 5, 10, 15, 20 or 30 minutes.

Current iPhone app includes a subscription for full-library access.

The published duration choices describe Simply Being, not every practice in the expanded app.

Calm

Certain standalone meditations offer 5-, 10- and 15-minute choices; search also filters by time.

Free content plus a Premium subscription for locked sessions.

Duration selection is not available for every course or daily meditation.
Headspace

Basics: 3, 5 or 10 minutes; Basics 2: 10 or 15; Basics 3: 10, 15 or 20.

Subscription library, with trial access.

Those courses do not each offer all three target lengths.
Bliss Brain・AI Meditation App

Generate a guided session with a selected duration of 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

Subscription with a free trial for eligible new users.

No arbitrary-duration option is listed; newly generated guidance is not a fixed recording.

Check the current purchase screen before subscribing. A free download does not establish that every duration or practice is free.

When is Insight Timer the right choice?

Choose it if you already know how you want to meditate and need a time boundary. Its preset instructions explain how to save duration, interval bells, ambient sound and an ending bell. You could create separate five-, ten- and fifteen-minute presets, or set another duration when those blocks do not fit.

For spoken guidance, use the library's duration filters. Its published length categories include 0–5, 6–10 and 11–15 minutes. Check the actual track runtime: a range is not an exact five-minute promise. The trade-off is choosing a recording rather than automatically adapting one favorite session.

Does Simply Being still offer 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes?

Yes: Meditation Oasis's Simply Being page lists those durations, plus 30 minutes. It also describes optional music or nature sounds and a choice of how long those sounds continue after the meditation. That makes the original practice worth considering if familiar guidance matters more than exploring new topics.

There is an important update to older recommendations. The current iPhone listing says the original Simply Being app is now included in a broader meditation app, with a subscription enabling access to all guided meditations and programs. Do not rely on older one-time-purchase descriptions. The developer's original-practice duration list should not be read as a guarantee that every added meditation has those lengths.

How do Calm and Headspace handle a changing schedule?

Calm offers both search and selectable lengths. Its duration guide describes a time filter under Discover search and duration choices for certain standalone sessions, including Body Scan and Deep Concentration. The Daily Calm runs about ten minutes; that is not the same as an adjustable daily session. Check the individual practice and its free or Premium status.

Headspace is worth considering for course-based learning. Its Basics documentation provides concrete length choices, but they differ by course. If you want to keep exactly the same course while switching between five and fifteen minutes, verify its options first: the first Basics course does not list fifteen minutes.

When does Bliss Brain's fixed set of lengths make sense?

Bliss Brain is an option if your available time and the subject you want to address both change. Its iPhone listing describes freshly generated guidance, custom requests, voice choices and optional soundscapes, with 5-, 10- and 15-minute duration settings.

For example, you might request five minutes to settle before a meeting or fifteen minutes to reflect after a demanding day. These are suggested requests, not promises of a particular result. The limitation is straightforward: the published choices do not include seven or twenty minutes, and generated sessions are different from returning to an identical teacher-recorded practice. It is a subscription option, not a claim of free ongoing access. See the Bliss Brain overview for its approach.

How should you choose when every day has a different schedule?

Use a simple decision rule:

  1. Need an unusual length, such as seven minutes? Look for a customizable timer if unguided practice suits you.
  2. Want familiar spoken guidance at several lengths? Inspect the specific Simply Being practice or an adjustable Calm session.
  3. Want a course? Check Headspace's duration choices at that course level.
  4. Want fresh guidance about today's situation? Consider Bliss Brain if its three time blocks fit.

Allow a little setup time beyond the listed meditation length. A ten-minute calendar gap is not necessarily ten uninterrupted minutes of audio.

Frequently asked questions

Which app lets me customize a meditation timer's duration?

Insight Timer documents a customizable timer and saved presets. That is a tool for timing your own practice, separate from selecting a guided recording.

Can I choose 5, 10 and 15 minutes for the same guided practice?

Meditation Oasis publishes those options for Simply Being, and Calm describes them for certain standalone meditations. Bliss Brain offers all three for newly generated sessions, rather than versions of one fixed recording.

Does a duration filter shorten a longer meditation?

No. A filter finds recordings by length; it is not an editing tool. To avoid stopping a guide halfway through, choose a recording that fits or a practice with a duration selector before pressing play.
